Calculator FAQs

MEPCO follows NEPRA-approved tariff slabs. For 2026, residential protected consumers pay Rs. 5 to Rs. 14 per unit depending on consumption, while non-protected consumers pay Rs. 23 to Rs. 68 per unit. These rates include fuel cost adjustment but not additional quarterly charges which may vary.

A "Protected Consumer" is a residential customer who consistently uses 200 units or less per month. They get subsidised, lower tariff rates. If your usage exceeds 200 units even once in a billing cycle, MEPCO may classify you as "Non-Protected" for that month, applying the higher slab rates to your entire consumption.

Your MEPCO bill consists of multiple components: energy charges (units × rate), fixed monthly charges, GST (17%), electricity duty (1.5%), NJ surcharge (10%), and a nominal TV license fee (Rs. 35). NEPRA also applies quarterly fuel cost adjustments (FCA) which fluctuate monthly based on the energy mix used to generate electricity.
