MEPCO Bill Frequently Asked Questions

Every question we've ever been asked about MEPCO bills — answered clearly, honestly, and in plain language.

🔍 Bill Checking

Go to the homepage of mepcobill.pk, enter your 14-digit reference number in the search box, and click "Check My Bill." Results appear instantly — no login or registration required.

Your reference number is a unique 14-digit code that MEPCO assigns to your electricity connection. It never changes for the lifetime of your connection. It's printed in the top-left corner of every paper bill, labelled "Ref. No." or "Reference Number."

The PITC database (which powers MEPCO bill lookups) typically stores the most recent billing cycle. For historical bills older than 1–3 months, you may need to visit your MEPCO sub-division office or contact the MEPCO helpline to request copies from their internal records.

If your bill doesn't appear after entering your reference number, it could mean: (1) Your bill hasn't been generated yet for this cycle, (2) You've entered the reference number incorrectly — double-check each digit, (3) There's a temporary server issue — try again in 10–15 minutes. You can also call MEPCO at 0800-63726 for assistance.

No. mepcobill.pk is an independent, third-party service that makes it easier to access MEPCO bill information. The official MEPCO website is www.mepco.com.pk. We use the same PITC government database for bill lookups, but we are not affiliated with MEPCO or PITC in any official capacity.

💳 Payment & Due Dates

MEPCO bills can be paid via: Easypaisa (mobile wallet or USSD), JazzCash (app or *786#), UBL Omni, all major bank apps (HBL Konnect, MCB, UBL, Meezan, Faysal), internet banking portals, and at any bank branch, MEPCO franchise office, or Post Office.

Paying after the due date incurs a late payment surcharge. MEPCO typically adds 10% on the overdue amount. You'll also see the "Payable After Due Date" amount shown on your bill. Repeated non-payment can result in connection disconnection.

In general, MEPCO requires full payment of the billed amount to avoid disconnection. However, if you have genuine financial difficulty, you can visit your MEPCO sub-division and request an installment payment plan — approval depends on your past payment history and the discretion of the SDO (Sub-Division Officer).

MEPCO bills are typically issued once every two months (bimonthly) for most residential consumers, though some areas receive monthly bills. Your due date is usually 15–21 days after the bill issue date. Subscribe to our email alerts to get notified automatically when your bill is ready.

📊 Tariff & Charges

For 2025, protected residential consumers pay Rs. 5–14 per unit, non-protected consumers pay Rs. 23–68 per unit depending on consumption. See our Tariff Rates page for the full table, or our Bill Calculator for a personalised estimate.

Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) is a monthly charge that reflects changes in the cost of fuel (gas, oil, coal) used to generate electricity. NEPRA approves FPA adjustments every month. In high-demand months (winter, summer), FPA can significantly increase your bill. It is shown as a separate line item on your MEPCO bill.

An unusually high bill can be caused by: (1) Wrong or estimated meter reading — request a re-reading, (2) Seasonal increase in usage (AC in summer, heaters in winter), (3) A faulty / fast-running meter, (4) High Fuel Price Adjustment for that month, (5) Tariff slab jump — if you crossed 200 units, you moved from protected to non-protected rates. Compare with our calculator to check.

📣 Complaints

You can lodge complaints via: (1) Helpline 0800-00118 (24/7 toll-free), (2) 0800-63726 for billing issues, (3) Email: complaint@mepco.com.pk, (4) SMS to 8118, (5) Online via the MEPCO CCMS portal at mepco.com.pk, (6) In person at your nearest MEPCO sub-division office. Always note down your complaint reference number for follow-up.

MEPCO is required to resolve billing complaints within 7 working days. Technical complaints (power faults, outages) should be addressed within 24–72 hours depending on severity. If your complaint is unresolved after these timeframes, you can escalate it to NEPRA's Consumer Service Centre at 051-9207200.

🔌 New Connections & Services

To apply for a new connection: (1) Visit your nearest MEPCO sub-division office, (2) Fill in the consumer application form, (3) Submit a copy of CNIC, property ownership documents, site plan/map, and photographs, (4) Pay the applicable connection charges, (5) Wait for a site inspection and approval (typically 15–30 working days). You can also apply online at mepco.com.pk.

To transfer a MEPCO connection, both the current and new owner must visit the MEPCO sub-division office together with: (1) CNICs of both parties, (2) Sale deed or transfer document, (3) Latest paid MEPCO bill (no arrears allowed), (4) Application form. The transfer fee varies by connection type.

🔒 Privacy & Security

Yes. Your reference number is only used to fetch your bill data from the government PITC database, and is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection. mepcobill.pk does not store, log, or share your reference number. Your bill details are only displayed on your screen and never saved on our servers.

Your reference number only allows someone to view your bill information — it cannot be used to make payments, modify your account, or access any sensitive MEPCO account settings. Only authorised MEPCO account holders can request connection changes. So while sharing your reference number is low risk, it's best to keep it private as a general security practice.
